Associate Director, Advocacy, Advancing Universal Representation What qualifications are we looking for?

  • Bachelors degree + 9-12 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a bachelors degree, applicable work or life experience may be considered. 
  • 6-9 years of experience in the social justice space, including the immigration reform space, building coalitions, allies and national strategy.
  • Experience with grass tops advocacy, lobbying, campaigns, and communications strategy
  • Experience managing coalitions
  • Experience advocating for policy change
  • Understanding of the immigrants’ rights space
  • Commitment to the mission of the UREP initiative and the Fairness to Freedom Campaign
  • 2+ years of management experience 
Associate Director of Research What qualifications are we looking for?

  • ADRs typically have advanced graduate training, such as a Ph.D. or equivalent, as well as 6+ years of work experience or equivalent applied experience over 8+ years. Additionally, ADRs will have several years of experience supervising interdisciplinary research teams. 
  • Experience supervising and working with mixed methods research and/or researchers; ability to supervise and advise on sophisticated quantitative analyses 
  • Experience conducting applied policy research; subject matter expertise including understanding of current criminal legal and immigration systems and policy in the state of California 
  • Ability to support and build advocacy efforts and external stakeholder relationships 
  • Advanced technical, methodological, analytic, and project leadership skills 
  • Commitment to race equity is required 

Preferred: 

  • Direct experience with and/or impact by the criminal legal or immigration system
Associate Director Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, social work, political science, criminal justice, or related field; or equivalent work experience; or relevant work or educational background and lived experience as a person directly impacted by the criminal legal system. 
  • Deep understanding of the criminal legal system, especially in California. 
  • Ability to discuss race equity issues within the criminal legal system. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a project, including assigned staff, from start to finish 
  • Experience designing and running advocacy projects. 
  • Empathetic approach to the work that values all team members. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both externally and internally with team members. 
  • Excellent writing skills across diverse media and audiences. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to articulate a compelling concept and vision to government and community partners and others.
